Saturday April 13, 2024 – Patricia Watts, Author, “Paper Targets”. Topic: Celebrating the Voices of Older Women.  Location: FPUD ,  990 East Mission Rd, Fallbrook, 10 AM

Speaker: Patricia Watts, Author of Paper Targets, also helped write the script of the AAUW project film, “Women Talk” Interviews by AAUW Fallbrook historian and paparazzi, Nancy Heins Glaser.

Topic: Celebrating the Voices of Older Women This is a demographic that is too often dismissed and denigrated by our society. These narratives disparage all of us, not just politicians, not just men and not just people who are well known. People over 50, 60, 70, 80 can be great, wise, interesting and valuable.  Even the most ordinary among us, the ones not in the headlines. We represent this!
Our doors open at 10 am and the program starts 10:20ish.

 Saturday May 11, 2024 – PRE-MOTHERS DAY LUNCHEON, FUNDRAISER AND FASHION SHOW. Location: La Cucina, Main Dining Room and Patio. Fallbrook.

Be a Friend…Invite a friend…or mom or sister or daughter etc. Tickets are part of the fundraising. There will be a very short Annual Business meeting at the beginning, followed by delicious lunch, silent auction and fun fashion show.

Saturday, March 23, 2024  Fallbrook Library, 2–5 p.m     The movie “Women Talk” will be featured for March Women’s History Month. The movie was created by AAUW members : Nancy Heins-Glaser, Jeannie Curtright, BJ Lane and Peggy Scudder.

Saturday, March 9, 2024, Fallbrook High School Teacher Lounge. Doors open at 10:00, meeting starts at 10:20.    Topic: “Are Teens out of their Minds? Absolutely Not!”
Author and AAUW member Pamela Nevills will speak about the teenage brain and how it differs from ours. In addition, our President, Karen Langer Baker will urge us to vote on the upcoming AAUW  Open Membership proposal.

She will discuss what the planning committee does for our community and specifically discuss what’s going on with the following issues:  Cannabis businesses in Fallbrook, Legislation about detachments, New Park in Fallbrook

Saturday October 7, 2023 General Meeting
Our guest speaker is the superintendent for the Fallbrook Union High School District, Ilsa Garza Gonzalez who is going into her 5th year at the district.  She will be discussing the advantages of the new trimester system and future plans for the district.

Program:  Fallbrook AAUW Diversity Chair Diane Summers is coordinating a panel on diversity representing cultural and racial groups in our community, including the new Ethnic Studies course for the high school.  Speakers include Theresa Villa, a Fallbrook High graduate who works at the Pala Reservation; and Maritza Gonzales, an immigrant from Guatemala who struggled to learn English and to fit into American culture.

Program: “Outstanding Women Artists” by artist Robin Douglas, Oceanside Museum of Art. Robin Douglas has taught art for 48 years at every level and venue, including 36 years as an Art Professor at the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois-Champaign Urbana. She taught many studio and art history courses.
Currently at Oceanside Museum of Art, Robin presents a variety of art studio classes and art lectures, as well as lectures each semester at Osher, CAL State San Marcos and various Rotary and university groups. See more at robindouglasart.com

Tech Trek Camper Presentations on Virtual Tech Trek Robotics Camp. Four of our
Fallbrook AAUW campers attended and a former Fallbrook AAUW camper volunteered as a
Social Coach.  UCSD STEMinists Making Change Pilot a Big Hit! From August 3 rd -7 th , Mary Isaacs, UCSD Camp Director, successfully presented a 5-day virtual STEM robotics camp that she developed with Qualcomm affiliates. Forty selected Tech Trek campers from 18 SoCal branched attended the camp. The goal for the campers was to design, build and program a wearable hat. Many thanks to Mary and the many volunteers, instructors and parents who supported the pilot.  Katie T. a former Fallbrook Tech Trekker was a Social Coach. She handled the
administration of her assigned breakout room (not the main Zoom room) — taking attendance,
monitoring chats, making sure girls were getting things done and understanding concepts. Also
Katie helped with other activities such as learning how to use FlipGrid, social media and other
apps and technology.  We hope to see you there!

The Heart of What We Do

January 2019 local Fallbrook author Sarah Bates spoke about her book The Lost Diaries of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Before Elizabeth Cady Stanton became a leader of the women’s rights and prominent abolitionist, she faced challenges fraught with disappointment.

Anne is a Board Member of the Women’s Museum of California; San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame Activist is one of her many achievements. She has written over 130 scientific articles and presented at more than 90 conferences around the world. She has worked on women’s health issues, women in the military, domestic violence, alcohol abuse, stress-related disease, and the role of the military in society. Anne has written two books: Women and the World of Work and Women as New “Manpower.” She served as associate editor for Psychological Reports and Armed Forces and Society and was asked to conduct sexual harassment prevention seminars.

February 3, 2018  – Speaker:  Pat Kellenbarger

Pat is past president of Del-Mar/Leucadia AAUW, fails retirement by vacationing with a purpose both domestically and abroad, teaching English, making quilts, and working with third world women’s cooperatives, and in African bush hospitals. She has experience with Global Volunteers, Plant with a Purpose, Elderhostel, Fathom, and short-term church mission projects. If you still have tread on your tires of life, you can fail retirement too!
