Thank you for your interest in the Fallbrook branch of AAUW, founded in 1946. We hope you find our community of women to be both welcoming and inspirational!
The Fallbrook AAUW Branch meets monthly from September through June to share updates on branch initiatives, present special speakers whose work relates to our mission, and to network with each other. In addition to attending general meetings, members may choose to participate in one or more of the local AAUW initiatives and interest groups.
- The Mentorship Group: As sophomores, select girls who are enrolled in the Fallbrook High School AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, are paired with a Fallbrook AAUW mentor. The mentors provide enriching group and individual activities throughout the girls’ high school experience. Mentees often report that the mentoring relationship was highly influential in their decision to continue on to college.
- The Hospitality Committee: Members arrive a bit earlier to general meetings to set up the meeting room, making sure it is warm and inviting. They also set up refreshments that have been graciously donated by fellow members.
- The Public Policy Committee: This is the advocacy arm of our association. The committee meets monthly to discuss national, state, and local policy issues and how to bring advocacy opportunities to our membership.
- The Scholarship Committee: Meets throughout the academic year to select high school senior girls who will receive scholarships funded by our local AAUW Branch. Each year, our branch awards scholarships to girls in the FUHSD AVID program for their freshman year in the college or university of their choice.
- The Tech Trek Committee: For 25 years, our branch has sponsored incoming 8th grade girls to attend a one-week summer Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), camp on the UCSD campus. The girls stay in dorms at night and during the day are immersed in topics like forensics, chemistry, anatomy, engineering, physics, and robotics. In this way, we are excited to contribute to the expansion of women in STEM careers. Committee members select the girls who attend and often serve as dorm “moms” during camp.
- The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Group: Meets monthly to discuss issues of concern and to learn how to make our branch and community more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
- The Book Club: Meets once a month (usually in someone’s home) to discuss a book chosen by the group. Conversation is lively!
- The Outings Group: Meets approximately once a month, as weather permits, to explore a new place to walk and commune with nature…and then have lunch, of course!
- The Movie Review Group: Meets one evening each month to review and discuss a movie of choice and enjoy a potluck dinner together. Spouses, partners, and friends are welcome!
- The Ukulele Group: Meets once or twice a month to learn to play the ukulele.
